Grade 9 number sense moves students from arithmetic into the more abstract world of rational numbers, exponents, and scientific notation. Students practise adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative fractions and decimals with fluency, then apply the exponent laws — product rule, quotient rule, power of a power, and zero and negative exponents — to simplify numerical and algebraic expressions.
