Example: Find x (fractions) and the area (decimals)

This is a common worksheet style: you’re given a composite (T-shaped) figure with mixed numbers and decimals. The questions usually ask you to (1) find a missing length x in fractions, then (2) compute the area in decimals by splitting the shape into rectangles.

Worksheet problem: find x in fractions and area of a T-shaped composite figure

Gradulo feedback (example)

Gradulo feedback: steps to find x in fractions and compute area in decimals

Step 1: Find the missing length x

Use the idea that the total width equals the sum of the horizontal pieces. In the example, the top width is 11 5/8. That total is made of:

  • 4 3/4 (left overhang)
  • 3 1/3 (the stem width)
  • x (right overhang)

So 11 5/8 = 4 3/4 + 3 1/3 + x, which gives: x = 3 13/24.

Step 2: Find the area (in decimals)

Split the T-shape into two rectangles:

  • Top bar: width 11 5/8 and height 3.2
  • Stem: width 3 1/3 and height 7.1 − 3.2 = 3.9

Add the two rectangle areas to get the total. For this example, the total area is:50.2.

FAQ

How does the AI homework checker work?

Simply upload a photo of your homework. Gradulo's AI analyzes your work, identifies what's correct and incorrect, and provides step-by-step explanations to help you understand where you went wrong and how to fix it.

Can Gradulo check my work (not just give an answer)?

Yes. Gradulo focuses on feedback: what's correct, what's incorrect, and the smallest step to fix the mistake—so you learn the method, not just the final answer.

What subjects can you check?

Gradulo checks math, science, English, social studies, and more. Works best for problems where you show your work: fractions, algebra, geometry, word problems, chemistry, physics, and essay writing.

What grade levels does this work for?

Gradulo supports Grades 1–12. This page is written for Grades 5–12 because that's where 'show your work' problems like fractions, geometry, and algebra show up most often.

What should I upload?

A clear photo of your worksheet or notebook page. Make sure the full problem and your work are visible, and avoid glare or shadows.

Will it explain steps like a teacher?

Yes. You'll get step-by-step reasoning and corrections. If you want, you can ask follow-ups like 'Where did I go wrong?' or 'Show me a quicker method.'

Is this homework checker free?

Yes. You can try the photo-grading demo for free without creating an account. If you want unlimited checks and longer tutoring sessions, you can sign up for a free trial.

Is using an AI homework checker cheating?

No! Gradulo teaches understanding by showing you where you made mistakes and how to fix them. It's like having a teacher review your work. We help you learn, not just get answers.
